RFID for Retail Store Management

Radio frequency ID (RFID) primarily functions like the traditional barcode, but instead of relying on a visual scan on barcode, it uses radio waves and reads data on the RFID tag containing electronically stored information.

RFID tags should run much more efficiently than barcodes because their data can be updated, changed, and locked, and retailers are able to perform inventory tasks quickly and accurately besides precision monitoring of physical stock movements.

RFID tags have read and write capabilities. and are able to transmit information almost immediately and directly to the computer database. RFID tags eliminate the need for shop floor to separately scan each barcode on each product to maintain inventory.

The question is when is it the best time for small and medium-sized retailers to start making good use of RFID technology on their shop floors?
